Denise R. Schoen
From Manhattan to Montauk, Denise R. Schoen has developed a distinguished career in the fields of in zoning, planning, land use, environmental, and municipal and real estate law. After six years of building a large network of loyal clients with partners, Jon Tarbet and Brian Lester, in Amagansett, Denise has now set down roots in her hometown of East Hampton. She will continue to represent clients in her primary practice areas.
Denise was admitted to practice law in the State of New York in 1998 and is admitted to the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York. She started her law career in the litigation department of Dewey & LeBoeuf in Manhattan where she worked on corporate litigation matters. After several years in the city, Denise moved back to her hometown of East Hampton where she gratefully served as an Assistant East Hampton Town Attorney representing both the Zoning Board and Planning Board. Denise later joined the firm Twomey, Latham, Shea, Kelley, Dubin & Quartararo LLP in Riverhead and East Hampton where her practice was concentrated on land use and planning matters along with residential real estate transactions. Denise became partners with former East Hampton High School classmates, Jonathan Tarbet and Brian Lester, in April of 2007.
Denise attended Long Island University at Southampton and graduated with a B.A. in pre-law summa cum laude in 1994 with a cumulative GPA of 3.98. She attended the State University of New York at Buffalo and graduated summa cum laude in 1997 in the top 1% of her class. She was later an associate professor for her alma mater, Southampton College, having taught a course entitled “Women, the Law, and Public Policy.”
Denise currently resides in Sag Harbor with her husband Jon and daughters, Sara and Emily. She is an active member of her community having served as a Member of the Sag Harbor Village Zoning Board of Appeals and also the Board of Architectural and Historic Preservation. She is currently a Sag Harbor Village Attorney representing its Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Board of Architectural and Historic Preservation, and Harbor Committee. Along with these Boards, she also serves the Village as its prosecutor of local zoning and parking regulations. She is honored to represent these local municipal boards, which are comprised of dedicated local citizens, who volunteer their precious time to help maintain and shape the beauty and character of our world-renowned community.
In addition to her position as a Village Attorney, Denise has also served on the Board of Directors for the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps, the Sag Harbor Community Housing Trust, and presently for the Reutershan Trust,
an educational trust that fosters artistic programs in local public schools. In addition to helping those in need in her legal career, Denise is most passionate about helping those individuals who require emergency pre-hospital medical care. She is certified as a Critical Care Emergency Medical Technician and has been a member of the Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance Corps for more than a decade. Although not able to dedicate as much time as she used to before having children, she also remains committed to returning as an instructor for new EMT students.
